Tell us – who IS ‘Black Valentine’ about?
It isn’t about anyone. With Hey! Hello! I finally got a chance to write fantasy lyrics about no-one specific. This is a rare treat for me, and being brought up on bands like Sparks, making up stories is always something I’d hoped to explore in my song writing one day. It’s fun as it confuses the fuck out of people.

Q : では、このプロジェクトを始めようと思ったきっかけは？アイデアはどうして生まれたのですか？
G :俺はずっと「スパークス」の大ファンで、彼等の様な歌詞のスタイルで、作られた人々や想像上の状況、楽しみについての曲を作りたかったんだ。俺は他人の視点から曲を書く事を本当に楽しいと感じるんだけど、ソロアルバムではそれはほぼ不可能だからね。

『ヘイ！ヘロー！』日本盤CDのボーナス・トラックには、スパークスのカヴァー「ワッキー・ウィメン」が収録されているが、スパークスもまた、彼らの中で”恐れを知らない”バンドとして分類されている。
「スパークスが『No.1 In Heaven』(1979)でやったことは、勇敢だった。ドナ・サマーの「アイ・フィール・ラヴ」は革命的なレコードだったけど、当時”ロック・バンド”だったスパークスがすべてを捨てて、ジョルジオ・モロダーの門を叩くことは、想像できないことだったんだ」（ジンジャー）
According to other interview, their song "Swimwear" lyrics ー"I read the history books, yeah, the whole way through gonna add me another page or two" are inspired by phrase of "Forever Young" ー"I'll sit and watch the history books get thicker".
